Proud Heritage of Freedom: Proclaim Liberty

This painting won a First Prize for the State of Texas and a National Third Prize in the American Heritage Contest, sponsored by NSDAR, 2005

Emphasizing out country's Proud Heritage of Freedom, Paul Revere sounds the alarm to his countrymen that the British are coming. Prominent in the painting is the Liberty Bell, which symbolizes the spirit of freedom of the new country. On it, the words 'Proclaim Liberty' stands out. On the left side of the Liberty Bell are ships bringing new settlers who seek freedom to the new land; on the right is the old North Church which still stands in Boston. At the top is part of the flag of Bennington which the artist selected because, of the various flags of this period, the number 76 shows clearly on it, as well as the thirteen stars representing the thirteen colonies. All symbols depict our country's desire for freedom. This heroic past gave birth to a new nation conceived in liberty and freedom.
